Dr.
Bruce R. Hoyle, M.D. Dr Hoyle was born and raised in Toronto Ontario Canada. His undergraduate and medical school training were at the University of Western Ontario. He interned in Vancouver British Columbia and completed a residency in Family Medicine at McMaster Medical Center in Hamilton Ontario.
Dr. Hoyle came to the Orange County California in 1982. While establishing a private practice, he spent 6 years working as an ER doctor in several Orange county hospitals.
In 1990 Dr. Hoyle earned an MBA degree from UC Irvine and was the medical director for a large group in Orange County. He continued his private practice and in the mid 90’s broadened it to include cosmetic procedures. It was this area of medicine that eventually led him to vein disorders.
Timing is everything. The treatment of vein disorders had not changed in decades. However the use ofultrasound to diagnose vein disorders, the use of endovenous lasers and foam sclerotherapy as treatment for varicose veins were new innovations. Dr. Hoyle was the first doctor in Orange County to perform an endovenous ablation. He was in the first 200 doctors in the country to become board certified in the new specialty of Phlebology. He eventually left Family Medicine and cosmetic medicine to focus on veins and established a new dedicated vein practice across from St Joseph’s Hospital.
Dr. Hoyle, was first board certified by the ABPh in July 2008. This is the charter class for ABPh, which includes 248 diplomates nationwide. His certification with the American Board of Phlebology is a direct reflection of his skill, knowledge, and experience in providing quality patient care, and his continued commitment to the advancement of vein care. To become board certified is truly an accomplishment. Less than 10% of all phlebology professionals in the U.S. have earned certification from the ABPh.
To become an ABPh diplomate, an applicant must complete the requisite training or experience qualifications, meet the continuing medical education requisites, and pass a stringent certification examination. Certification periods are ten years and maintenance is dependent on the ability of the diplomate to display competency in four areas of assessment: evidence of professional standing, evidence of commitment to lifelong-learning and periodic self-assessment, evidence of cognitive expertise, evaluation of performance in practice.
